Dear Brenton Williams,
I am surprised by your email that said we should report all incidents where a person has been caught in a home. On 15th March 2010 I found a man in my house at 06h30. I calmly talked to him until I managed to get him out of my house, and I could lock the door. He had stolen my husband’s old cell phone, so we went to report it at the police station. The police woman we spoke to said that she could not open a case without a note from the cell phone service provider, as proof that it was our phone, and that unless he stole something the police could not catch him. We went to MTN to obtain that note, but they could not provide that, unless we had the box. Because it was a very old phone we had no box for it any more, so we could not open a case.
I wanted to describe him in detail, because I saw and spoke to him for quite a while. He had a very distinct scar across his right eye. At the charge office nobody was interested in that. I heard on 31st March 2010 that he was the man that stabbed the two people who featured in the newspaper the week before.
I felt that if we were taken seriously the police might have prevented that stabbing incident. Maybe you should tell your staff about the request you sent out on email as well.
Thanks for what you are trying to do.
Kind regards,
Rony Swiegers.

Last November at Potters Place, I did a lecture and question and answer session called First Aid and Life Support at the Beach, and set up a couple of first aid boxes (one basic, for the lay man, and one a little more advanced, with full kit to be able to stitch someone up, if there is a doctor about, and with
instructions of how to get to Humansdorp/ PE Hospitals, and Emergency
numbers) which are kept at Cheron Kraak’s African Perfection Guesthouse reception at Supertubes…it’s been well used, and I’ve had a very positive response, and have been approached to do the same thing at Point and
Seals… so I had the idea of doing a fundraiser as the contents of these boxes are worth approx R4000- 5000. I had spare kit to contribute to the box at Supers and Robin Morris generously donated the rest of the funds necessary.
I’ll be back in Jbay in July, and put the idea to Cara Sawyer at Jeffreys Bay Boardriders; we thought it would be great if we could hold a raffle with the proceeds going towards the upkeep of the First Aid Kit at Supertubes, and hopefully establishing one or two more in the local area (Seals/ Point) as well as ongoing first aid and CPR education in Jbay which will be free to attend for the all local surfers and beach users, and also split some of the funds with the Supertubes Foundation.
There have been some very generous prize donors so far, and if you know if anyone else would like to contribute please get in touch…Prizes include: Billabong wristwatch worth R1400, a pair of Instep Boots from Andy Thuysman, Von Zipper sunglasses, a wetsuit from Derevko, accessories from Jeep, Steve Pike’s Surfing in SA book, Cheron and Lauren D’arcy have contributed goodies and there will be gift vouchers from 3 Fat Fish, Nina’s and Samuel Beck, plus art from Deon Lategan and Yvonne and Garth Robinson. Should be a good one… watch this space and we’ll keep you you posted with where the tickets will be sold!
Best wishes,
Preeti

Shell festival is getting more dissappointment every year. I say it is just BAD management. We are loosing attendance to Loerie’s naartjie fees each year and no one seems to care about it. We need Shell festival each year to bring in money for Jeffreys Bay! What can we do about it??? Sonja Geldenhuys
I must agree with you Sonja it is really a poor showing the last 4 years have been pathetic I think our local council needs to relook the situation.
Thanx
Dean

Hi B,thanks for this information. these same 2 characters were walking up and down Plane street late yesterday afternoon (3 times) which always sets off alarm bells for me. And last night just after midnight I called out our security company (Smart)as i heard activity in the back garden and my dogs started barking.they found nothing but that i don’t believe in co-incidences on that level. so please advise people these 2 blacks are definitely on the lookout.and kudos to Smart who arrived in less than 1 minute! thanks again for being so vigilant

Dear Editor,
Local Government elections are coming up. Some might want to gauge their popularity before elections or avoid vote rigging and they could take ideas from the USA where popularity polls are often done. For extra information search “Swayseeker vote rigging” with a Google search.

Hi Brenton
please would u be so kind as to add our SPCA newsletter and dogs available up for adoption etc, unfortunately we cannot afford a website as our funds are very low, we work a lot in the township together with Pet Rescue Irma and Cindy, who have now joined the SPCA we are also fighting against the dog fighting in the local townships.
I visited Jeffreys Bay in 1999 and met a friend’s father. I was wondering if anyone knew him, or know if he is still living in Jeffrey’s Bay. I would love to contact him to see if he is okay. Tell him Judy is looking for him and can write to me at disasterspecialist1@yahoo.com

Hi,
I love reading Jeffrey’s Bay News….. but:
Please remove/improve the advertisement of c-view opticians. The “eyes” are very disturbing. Surely there must be at least 1 other way to advertise
Optometry.

Whatever happened to the article on the “Municipal Manager”???.
The content of the article is not visible anymore.
If possible – let it be displayed again.
Thanks

Is this the newspaper which refuses to publish the Born This Way Gay parade in Port Elizabeth? If it is, then shame on you!!
I am trying to locate the edditor’s email address, Mr. Robbie Hift of the EC Mirror newspaper. In reference to an article to today’s Daily Dispatch regarding its refessall to print info of the forthcoming “Born This Way” gay parade latter this month in PE.
567 Cape Talk radio reports of a shark attack fatality this morning .
More details please
I promised people that I would write to newspapers in Jeffries Bay to express my absolute horror as to the state of the roads in town and especially Da Gama road. My parents are retired and I do not visit as much as I should, but I did spend the past weekend in Jeffries Bay as part of watching the rugby test in the new staduim in PE. Back to my observations on the state of your roads – shocking to say the least! How do you get visitors in town to spend money if all you do is dodge potholes and avoid gravel patches!. Tour busses probably don’t even dare to enter. The state of Da Gama road is a disgrace and unless you do something about your infrastructure your town can kiss tourism goodbye.
Anyway, just a brief observation which will in all probability not reach anybody who cares to do something about the situation, but at least I got it of my chest.

The trial starts from May 2 2012 at the Port Elizabeth High Court re. the murder of Jeffreys Bay butcher Deon Verwey: Could you please cover the story?
