Dear Sir I would like thank you for the updates on the crime situation in our town. I know we should not be living in fear but that is not possible when you are mis-informed and what you are doing is helping us be more vigilant and aware, I find I have no reason to be afraid in this town even though we have had some real problems because it looks like the police are doing the best they can, I don’t know how they do it as it is very visible that they are very under-staffed. It is also great that the police are allowing the citizens of the town get involved neighbourhood watch. Outlying towns can learn a thing or two from our police force because of there ability to be transparent.

    Thank you

      Hi Nicholas

Your comments will be forwarded to the Police and the CPF.

We are in a fortunate position where there is great co-operation between our community and the Police and lets hope is stays that way.

We are comming for a vacation to J-Bay in June for 9 days but have not been back to SA for 5 years. We are living abroad in Switzerland and dont really have a clue what the crime situation is like in J-Bay. I dont want to be afraid but living in a country like Switzerland we dont/have not been faced with violet crime and it is worrying.

Are the beaches safe to sit on near supertubes? Whats the percentage of breakings and is there any highjackings taking place during the day and night time? It would really be appreciated if we knew in advance what to expect.

    Dear Sir,

I have to remain ananomous, because if I don’t, I will be evicted from our town, but it is up to you to decide on the legitamcy, integrity and honesty
    of this post

I am led to understand that the international head of Billabong, who is building a HUGE HOUSE in J Bay, and on a beach near our surfing mecca has just retrenteched 30 employees. Now things are quite simple, big bucks, big salary, share incentives, and lets get rid of the the workers, because they are not adding much value to my profits or better still–the more I can get rid of, the better my share options! A Big house, and which is only a holiday house -and on the dunes ( oh lets save the dunes!!!), and kick the staff out,so we can a build a house? So what are Billabong and what are they are supposed to be protecting? Dunes, I don’t think so, they and their previous management have already messed up the dunes with their huge indulgences of houses I mean who needs a Bali house in J Bay on our crumbling dunes? I guess because it is profitable.

So we have a whole lot of confused people in town because the biggest anti-nuke person in the dorp ,and, please no one else is alowed to build on our dunes, only because because we have the best sites, Oh and yes we protect our/your/the Dunes-, and you know who you are, demolish your mansions–and lets see your mettle! We don’t need flakes here.

Should we all vomit, maybe? ! But Billabong is our saviour, the protector of the environment, the employer of our people? The China manufacturer? And the anti-nuke lobby, God knows where this brains trust think our energy is going to, or comming from, but that is for another date. I like the idea we all buy Billabong, why not–they employ our people–or do they? But then–you knows what, they are self righteous, and the anti-Nuke lobby, and whatever else is cool, and lets retrench people, but build on dunes, and be cool, get stuff made in foreign lands at a fraction of good labour, and saying anti-nuke! Hmmmmmmm.

So this same management says no to Nukes in J Bay–lets get this clear, these people want the power station moved,/ removed/ relocated? I am not sure why, they have never given us an alternative. Only that they will never say more. There has been absolutely no science or remonstrations, just a dumb campaign that said No Nukes. They own so much property, and other assets–and I wonder. . . . . .Maybe, just maybe their property will be worth a small fortune should the big Nuke come. HmMMMMMMMMM

This is a company that has clearly lost direction. Save our dunes, and the CEO builds a huge house on our dunes.? Save us from nukes, well where do they think energy is going to come from? In the future, with whatever time at our disposal? it makes thre mind dumb!

    Hello there,

Could anyone please supply me with the phone number or e mail for what used to be Hurdy Gurdy, then Cheers on De Gama Road, Jeffriesbaia please. It doesn’t appear to be listed in the directories. Even contact details for Philip Brown or my wife Renata Pretorius Plant would do if you have those available.
    Many thanks in advance,

    Dennis Plant.

I would like to thank two of your locals for their incredible kindness to me when my car broke down while I was en route to visit my father in hospital in PE: Firstly, Louise Hancke of Maxi’s who took pity on this snivelling wreck, sat me down with a coffee and arranged for the dealer to send technical assistance. Secondly, Dawie Coetzee from the Mercedes dealership in Humansdorp who arrived quickly because he knew I had time issues. He arranged for my car to be towed, helped me clear my car and delivered me to Avis. I got to Greenacres in time to support my octogenarian parents before the surgical procedure. Penny
